Travel Diary: Mimi G Style 2016 Conference! – LA, California

Travel Diary: Mimi 2016 Conference - Rosy | Peña

Hi Beauties! I hope the last few weeks have been fabulous for you! As promised I’m back from LA with a re-cap post on the festivities from the Mimi G Style 2016 Conference!  I started following Mimi about 6 months after I started sewing little girl clothing for my daughter and other little projects here and there but once I discovered Mimi and all the amazing fashion garments that she was not only making for herself but teaching others how to make too. I was HOOKED. I probably would have never even considered making women’s clothing had it not been for her, or at least it would have been a much longer road to get me to that point. So I’m forever grateful for her and of course had to attend one of her annual conferences!

My sister and I participated in the runway show on day one. The only rule was to make something from one of Mimi’s patterns, tutorials etc. we had the option to either sew as is or modify, which I thought was pretty cool. I stuck to a pattern straight out of the package, here. All attendees also received cute goody bags this night, I photographed all of the contents below!

Enjoy the post! XOXO

Day two was a full day! Learning about finishing techniques and how to make a skirt sloper. Waiting for us in the conference room was a cute little setup on how to choose the correct pattern size from Simplicity. At the end of the day there was time set aside to take photos with Mimi, I was going to skip it so I went upstairs to change out of my heels and head to Joann Fabric (even out of state I still had to catch the pattern sale) then I was like what am I thinking, I HAVE to take a picture with her! Lol. (The pattern I’m wearing in the photos is McCall’s 7292).

Day three we we’re able to hear speeches from several amazing women, Mimi spoke first about the business of sewing, Tieko Nejon was next with amazing information on branding your business. Then Tiffany Aliche spoke on how to budget. Also, the Dahlia Law group was there on the legalities of owning a business!

After that was the fabric shopping trip! YES!!! I had to get in and out or I would have been broke. LOL. I only visited one location which was across the street from Michael Levine their discounted area “The Loft” the fabric here is sold by the pound! You’ll see the stash I was able to get in the photos and I only spent $35 for it all!!! After hearing the discussion on budgeting I’d say I did pretty good! 🙂 You’ll see the excitement on my face. After the fabric shopping I had to break from the group and of course do a little wondering around Los Angeles! I couldn’t help but get some of that experience in as well. I hardly get out of Texas! 🙂

My FAVORITE experience from the trip had to be being around so many amazing women who share the same passion as I do. For one person to be able to bring all these women together is truly amazing. If you get the chance to visit one of these annual conferences I highly suggest that you do! Visit Mimi’s blog!

  1. Wow, looks like a wonderful time! I have never been to a Mimi G conference…However, I do follow her blog and career. Maybe one day I’ll be able to attend too! BTW…very nice fabric selection! Looks like you did some real damage to your wallet in the fabric department, LOL!!

    1. It was pretty cool! It seems to be getting better and better each year from what I heard at the conference! A lot of people we’re regulars to attend! She said she wants to keep the numbers about the same each year to be more intimate and not so overwhelming! It was fun to meet her, Tieko and everyone! I didn’t do too much damage on the bank since I shopped the sale area! I got out of there safely! LOL

  2. Looks like it was a fun weekend! I will have to check it out next year if she still has it in LA. Do you know if it’s in a different city each year? I couldn’t find any info on her site. Thanks for sharing the cute pics!

    1. Yes it’s in LA every year. This was her 5th conference and they’ve all been held in at the same location the JW. Marriot on Olympic Blvd. It was fun, the cost this year was $215 per ticket the early bird rate, I’m not sure how much it will be next year. You’re welcome for the photos I’m glad you enjoyed! XO
