Gertie Dress + Pattern Review – Butterick 6453

Hello BEAUTIES! Happy Friday! I’m thrilled with how many of you enjoyed my SEWING ROOM tour from earlier this week! 🙂 I love seeing creative spaces so it was great to hear all the positive feedback, thank you! For today I’m sharing a dress I made by designer Gertie, BUTTERICK 6453. The pattern has a simple silhouette and of course a touch of retro! I added a delicate ruffle to the bottom after seeing a fabulous version with the same approach in the sew-along Facebook GROUP. I talk more about the pattern in my review below along with style photos. Enjoy, talk soon! XO

Pattern Description: Close-fitting dress has front princess seams on bodice, back zipper, adjustable straps with ring and slider, and skirt variations. BUTTERICK 6453.

Pattern Sizing: 6 – 14, I cut size 10.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Similar, yes.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I like the classic style.

Fabric Used: COTTON SATEEN, similar HERE, HERE.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: None. Although, I probably should have went a size smaller, especially in the bodice portion of the pattern to fit my body better.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes to both! 🙂

  1. This looks AMAZING on you! I just made this dress and blogged about it, I was really disappointed with mine 🙁 I had issues fitting the bodice (isn’t it huge??) and was a bit underwhelmed by my fabric choice. Yours however is absolutely beautiful – I love the ruffle! 😍

    1. Thank you! Yes the bodice is totally huge, I thought it was just me. I’ll check out your blog post! Thanks again for the comment! XOXO

  2. What a great pattern and style for you, not to mention how perfect it looks on you and the designer touch of the ruffled bottom is very nice. All and all it looks smashing, shoes, jewelry etc., great job!

    1. Awe, so sweet! I enjoyed the pattern and really like the ruffled detail also. Thank you so much for your comment! XO
