Floral Bomber Jacket + Pattern Review – McCall’s 7100

Hello BEAUTIES! Happy Thursday! & Happy First day of FALL! YAY! This is my FIRST ever bomber jacket and I might be in love. I’ll be honest I wasn’t drawn to the pattern at first glance (crazy right?) but after reading a few posts about the sew-along on the McCall’s blog AND being gifted this gorgeous floral print fabric from my mother I had to jump on board! This is my first sew-along to participate in and I’ve really enjoyed it. McCall’s made a Facebook group especially for the bomber sew-along and it’s been great seeing other bomber styles made up, everyone in the group is so creative and kind! I encourage you to jump in if you’ve been considering! The bomber is a really fun make and has endless style options, theres something here for everyone! I’ve included a few pictures from Instagram, my pattern review & of course some try on shots below! Also check out my Bomber Jacket board on Pinterest, these looks would be awesome for FALL! Have a GREAT rest of the week! XO – Rosy

Pattern Description: Misses’ Bomber Jackets – McCall’s 7100

Pattern Sizing: Xsm – Med, I cut size Xsm.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes I thought they were.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love the bomber jacket pattern, wish there were instructions included on how to line it. I did my best attempt at a lining but can’t wait for the sew-along blog post on “adding a lining to a bomber jacket” – week of 10/10! 🙂

Fabric Used: Floral print cotton, crepe de chine  as lining, rayon jersey for the bands.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: None.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes definitely want to try the other views and different fabric options. I think there are endless possibilities for this type of bomber pattern in terms of style, fit and fabrics. I would recommend.

Conclusion: I really love this pattern. It was fun to make and I can see more of these in my closet. If you want a looser fitting bomber I would definitely go a size up. My next make from this will be a less fitted version.

  1. G O R G E O U S!!!!! This jacket looks fabulous on you Rosy!!! Great minds think alike…I am currently working on one too! I didn’t add lining to mine either, but it was intentional because my fabric is very different. I unfortunately couldn’t find a pattern for the style Bomber jacket I wanted so I had to draft one. Hopefully, I will complete by this weekend. Your jacket has convinced me to make another one when I’m done and I will line that one and add a tutorial to my blog to help others.

    1. Thanks a bunch MYRA! I know many will be able to benefit from your tutorial about lining a jacket! I can’t wait to see your bomber! I couldn’t even dream of drafting a bomber at this stage in my sewing but I would love to learn one day! Theres so much to learn! Thank you for your comment! XO

  2. Just beautiful!! You’ve inspired me to make this jacket it has been in my pattern stash for awhile and now it’s time. I love your choice of fabric and the rayon jersey for the trim.
It looks marvelous on you such a great job.
    Thanks for the inspiration.
    Blessings,
    JL

    1. Thank you! I was a little hesitant about not using actual ribbing for the trims as suggested but the jersey worked well for this! I am very pleased to hear that I’ve inspired you to make the jacket! It really was a joy to make something a little different from the normal. You are so welcome for the inspiration & thank you for your wonderful comment! XO

    1. Thank you Rikki! I agree it’s very feminine ! Glad you like the overall look as well! Hope to see your version of the pattern, I’m sure it will be great. 🙂

  3. Girl. One word–AMAZING!!! This might be my most favorite make of yours yet! Absolutely love this, and the styling is impeccable as usual.
