Easter Inspired Ruffle Sleeve Dress – Livia (M8084) 🐰🥚🌼

Hi, BEAUTIES! Wow, this year has taken an unexpected turn! Truth be told I probably would not be posting right now if everything that has happened recently didn’t happen. At the start of 2020, I started college to finish a degree I was working towards years ago… The school was taking pretty much all of my free time, but now that most things have transitioned to online, I’m happy to say I have free sewing time again! I’ve missed everyone in the sewing community and I’m so happy to be posting to the blog again! 🙂

Easter is around the corner and although it won’t be the Easter any of us expected it’s what inspired today’s make. Livia (M8084) is a new pattern from Mccall’s Spring collection. I must say I love the new packaging for their patterns and like the added touch, very similar to indie patterns, of having a pattern name! While this is my first blog post of the year I did recently sew the popular Alister pattern for a future Minerva.com blog post, you can see pictures of that make on my Instagram for now.

Anyhoo back to this tie front, Easter-inspired dress! I used a crepe fabric from Fabric.com, I’ll be honest I’m not completely sure if I love the fabric. It tends to hold wrinkles a bit, but I do love the color! And similar to linen fabric if you don’t mind a few wrinkles here and there it won’t be a problem at all. Fun fact with this photoshoot it started raining on us midway through so we cut it short! Luckily we snapped enough photos for today’s post… I’m getting off track again lol. The pattern itself is great for beginners, in my opinion. The front tie is lined with a facing and the elasticated waist makes it pretty easy for fitting and construction. The flounce/ruffle sleeve adds a very nice feminine touch and is fun to see come together during the sewing process, something is satisfying about sewing a circular piece of fabric to a sleeve! I don’t know, call me weird! 🤣

I hope you are staying safe and as uplifted as possible during this time, remember things will get better and try to make the best of it. I know it can be hard right now for everyone but things will get better. I’ll leave you with one of my favorite quotes, most of you have heard it before… “Do what you can, where you are, with what you have”. – Theodore Rosevelt. If you are spiritual at all I also want to link to something that I listen to/watch every morning that brings me lots of joy for the day, Joyce Meyer Enjoying Everyday Life. 🙏🏽

Happy early Easter, beauty! Hoping you stay safe and happy, lots of sewing! XO Rosy ❤️

  1. Can you maybe explain the step where you unfold the facing and attach to overarms, I can’t seem to do it right. I’ve unpicked like four times lol. Your dress looks great.
