DIY Tie Front Top + Maxi Skirt

DIY Tie Front Top + Maxi Skirt - Rosy | Peña

Hello BEAUTIES! It’s been far too long! Happy Happy HAPPY Wednesday! I miss posting to the blog way more than you could imagine so it feels like it’s been forever! I hope everyone has been doing great! 🙂 I was lost for a little bit in the sense that I totally lost my “Sewing Mojo” if you’ve been around the sewing community for any amount of time you’ve probably heard this term before or have experienced losing it yourself, yes it’s an actual thing, and being without it feels so weird! Basically it’s losing all inspiration to make and when you do make, things don’t turn out so well! What do YOU do when this happens to you?! I stumbled across things online such as; it happens when your pregnant (definitely not the case) or it took a year to get it back. The internet is a scary place. I’ll take any less harsh input for if this ever happens again??

Thankfully I got SOME of my mojo back (lol) and was able to put together this two piece outfit! I was inspired by a photo I saw on Instagram and it whirlwind from there. That is how I know I really like something when I am immediately inspired to get up and make something similar. Although the only thing I replicated was the top of the outfit I was glad to be out of my sewing rut. I am seriously never ever one to toot my own horn but I do REALLY love this look and even more I love how simple and inexpensive it was to put together! Ah the joys of sewing! 😉

If it’s requested enough I can get together a tutorial for this look, it can get a bit time consuming putting together the tutorials but if I get a good amount of response it will motivate me to get one together for you ladies! We are so close to September and all the fall sewing posts will be hitting the streets but I live in Texas so this breezy type of garment will do me good for even a few more months. You might be able to relate 🙂 Enjoy the photos & I’ll talk to you all soon! XO (UPDATED: LINK TO TUTORIAL).

  1. Rosy, I have been in your shoes, but my sewing break lasted a lot longer than just a couple of weeks. My last break lasted 5 months, due to life circumstances. So, don’t feel bad, it happens. Also, you should go forward with your tutorial. I probably wouldn’t be able to wear the outfit you made, but there is someone out there that would love to wear it. 🙂

    1. I can see how life circumstances interfere with sewing, it definitely requires a lot of time and energy. I still feel somewhat uninspired. I want to thank you though for motivating to go forward with the tutorial. It may not be everyones ideal outfit but you are right, somewhere out there might love it. Thank you Dari 🙂

    1. Loretta, You are so kind! I love reading your positive comments on my blog, Thank you! The tutorial is now up! I’m glad you all motivated me to make it! 🙂

  2. Love, love, love this!!! Such a sexy yet classy look but one that leaves something to the imagination. Not always easy to pull off but you nailed it!!
I would love a tutorial if you can find the time!

    1. I totally get what you’re saying! There is definitely a fine line! Thank you so much for your comment! I’m leaning towards doing a tutorial once I get enough free time! So definitely stay tuned! 😉

  3. This is a very, very nice set Rosa! I love the styling and the fabric you selected! I also have to admit that you nailed the fit too! Is this a knit fabric?

    1. Thank you Myra yes this is a knit! This fabric is actually from Wal-mart, I was able to get out of there paying less than $6! I was surprised to see Wal-mart even carried knits & the quality feels nice! I would compare it to the feel of a travel knit. 🙂
