Date Night Dress + Pattern Review – Simplicity 8045

DIY Date Night Dress - Rosy | Peña

Hello Beauties! I hope you all are having a wonderful Monday! I’m excited to be back today with a post on another sewn garment from a Mimi G pattern, Simplicity 8045! This one is from her Pre-Spring 2016 collection, you can check out her blog post on it here. Mimi has great taste in style, her garment photos are usually a bit more colorful than I’d wear on myself but the patterns themselves I always admire and LOVE! This one is a great example! Pattern Review and more info below!

Okay so did I mention I’ll be in LA in a few weeks!? Yep! I’m attending Mimi’s Conference this year! SUPER EXCITED! ALSO, last minute (a week before entry deadline) my sister and I decided we are going to go ahead and participate in the runway show for Mimi’s conference, this is my entry dress! I know there will be so many fabulous sewn garments there and I can’t wait to see them all! I won’t keep you all too long today but I hope you have a fabulous rest of the week! Also hope to have given someone a little sew inspo for a possible summer date nite dress 😉 (I’d totally rock this for a dinner date)!

Heads up I’m going to have a DIY Tutorial posted this week on the Bare Shoulder Top from last week! You all are going to LOVE how easy it is! XOXO

Pattern Description: Miss and Plus Size Knit Dress from Mimi G Style, Simplicity 8045.

Pattern Sizing: 10-18, I cut size 10.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes!

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, there is a video tutorial online for anyone who is having trouble! The instructions themselves are pretty basic and easy to follow.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I’m a sucker for a knit dress because of the comfort! I also love that this is an off the shoulder dress BUT I do not have to worry as much about the elastic pulling up above my shoulders and around my neck as I do with other patterns, for me the wide band that goes around the bust helps to keep things down! I LOVE that part!

Fabric Used: Light weight cotton knit from Joann’s Fabric! I could not find online anywhere to link!

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I took in a bit from this pattern since the smallest size is a 10 and I usually would cut a size 6 from a knit pattern. I took in 1” from all the center folds and 1” from center of the sleeves.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes, If you don’t mind an off the shoulder dress this is a great pattern! If your my size all I suggest is taking in before you cut and sew! XO
