Closet Case Nettie + Flare Dress Hack

Closet Case Nettie + Simple Modifications - Rosy | Peña

Hello Beauties! Happy Wednesday 🙂 Today I have a simple pattern “hack” for you all along with my review on the Closet Case Nettie Pattern, I’ve sewn this up in several of the variations and I absolutely love them. Nettie has scoop neck, high neck and high back, medium, low back options! Along with a bodysuit or dress option. Also sleeve variations! I love this pattern. Not to mention the fabric needed is often very soft and wrinkle free! 4 way stretch fabrics with good recovery. I chose a single spandex knit from Girl Charlee. I hope you all enjoy the review and have an AWESOME rest of the week! XOXO 🙂

Closet Case Nettie + Simple Modifications - Rosy | Peña Pattern Description: Closet Case Nettie Bodysuit & Dress, can purchase here.

Pattern Sizing: 2-18, I cut size 8.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Similar, yes!

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes the instructions do a good job at walking you through and the designer has a walk through tutorial for her Nettie pattern on her blog, here.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love this pattern for it’s many variation options.

Fabric Used: Single spandex knit, here.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I measured 19″ down from the waistline and 17″ out from the center folds to both the front and back pattern pieces to add flare. (I’ve added a picture walkthrough at the end of this post for a better visual of the pattern hack).

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes, and yes. 🙂

Closet Case Nettie “Flare Dress Hack”

Supplies: Tracing paper, Closet Case Nettie Pattern, Marker, Yardstick.

I’ve put together a little visual of how I modified the Closet Case Nettie Pattern, below is the PDF version of the Nettie Bodysuit printed and taped together.  You could have the dress version put together either will work really the only piece we’re altering is the bottom of the pattern everything from the waist up remains the same.

Around the middle of the patterns you’ll notice the “lengthen or shorten here” dash line, the very first dash line is where I am considering the waist and this is where we will be measuring down the 19″ from. You can surely add how ever much length you want. Measure from your waist down to where you want your dress to fall and that will be your number. For this walkthrough and for what I used on my dress I am using 19″.

Place your Nettie Pattern onto a good size of “tracing paper” I personally use freezer paper when I alter patterns, or you can use actual pattern tracing paper, even parcel paper or kraft paper. Any will do! Place your front pattern with the center fold at the edge of your tracing paper. Tape the pattern down to your tracing paper at the sides to keep it from shifting. Grab your yardstick and measure from the first “lengthen or shorten here” dash line down 19″ and make a mark.

Measure from that mark outward away from the fold 17″ and make a mark”

Connect the mark you just made to the “lengthen or shorten here” dash line with your yardstick. Draw a line diagonally and a straight line across the bottom. You can add a hem to the bottom if you choose, I left mine as is and used a 5/8″ hem when I made my dress.

Now all that’s left to do is cut out your pattern piece along the lines we created and repeat the above steps to the back piece as well. Cut out and sew your Nettie with any of the neck options and sleeve options you choose! The only thing we modified was the lower half! I hope you enjoyed! Comment if you have any questions! XO
