Classic Wrap Dress + Bell Sleeves

Hi BEAUTIES! It’s graduation season and Mother’s Day is right around the corner so I’m here with another special occasion look! I absolutely LOVE this one. The classic wrap dress is one of those pieces that is always in style and I don’t know whats taken me so long to sew one up for myself. I favor patterns such as this because I know I’ll get good use from them, there are so many trendy patterns available that are only “in” or stylish for a month or two but a beauty like VOGUE 8896 can be appreciated for years. Enjoy today’s post and have an awesome day! 🙂 Have you made this pattern before, what did you think? XO.

VOGUE 8896

Pattern Description: Wrap dress has close-fitting, bias bodice, gathers at shoulders and waist, tie ends, flared skirt and narrow hem – VOGUE 8896.

Pattern Sizing: 8 – 16. I cut size 8.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Similar, I modified the sleeve.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, very easy! 😉

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? This is my first wrap dress so I love the wrap feature! It’s super easy fit wise and pretty quick to sew up. I wasn’t fond of the length of the ties. I lengthen them in order to actually wrap around, rather than just tie at the front as the pattern suggests.

Fabric Used: ITY knit, similar HERE, HERE. Sign up for EBATES to save 3% at FABRIC.COM.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: Yes I lengthened the sleeve and added a “bell”  to that. I explain how I did this in the first issue of SEW SEW DEF Magazine.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Definitely, yes. I would recommend. It’s a classic dress style that won’t go out of style. 🙂

  1. I love this dress and it is serving as an inspiration for me to also make one. But I have two questions.

    1. did you also make this dress in a lovely purple print? I thought I remembered seeing a photo.

    2. did you raise the waistline? I thought initially you did. But one of the photos appears to show the waistline in the normal position with the tie under the bust.

Thanks. I purchased purple floral print fabric to make mine. I was going to try to raise the waistline to make it under the bust because I really like that look.

    1. Hi Vicki! I’m so happy you love this look as much as I do! This is actually the first time I ever made the dress and I did not raise the waistline, it was more of a way I choose to position the waist tie like you mentioned. However raising the waistline would be excellent especially if you like the appearance it’s giving. You should definitely give this one a try! XO

  2. Yours looks so much better! I like the way you have made it more of an empire line with the ties below the bust, it goes so well with the bell sleeves. So pretty!

  3. LOVE the sleeves! I have a knit wrap dress pattern that I love so I think I’ll give the bell sleeves a try!
