“Miami” Outfit Look + Pattern Review: Simplicity 8128

Hi BEAUTIES! I’m back with a “Miami” inspired outfit look today! So many people are traveling at the moment and whether you’re going somewhere chilly or sunny I thought I’d share some quick and easy pattern inspiration that I absolutely love! Quick bit about myself, I’m really a chill type of girl when it comes to style! Don’t get me wrong I love fashion and all the cool trends but this look is more of a “everyday” outfit for me. If you asked to fit myself into one specific style category I would say comfort AND cute pieces are always my go-to choices, CASUAL/CHIC if you will.

Today’s look is from two Simplicity Patterns, 8177 PANT, 8128 TOP. I reviewed the top pattern for you below, since I have reviewed the 8177 pattern twice before, HERE, and HERE. The run-down on that one is I love the entire pattern contents, I cut a size 10 in the pants and the fabric is a stretch woven from Joann stores. I made no alterations. I’m filming a new Fabric Haul video for my YouTube CHANNEL so I’ll keep today’s post short. Have a fabulous day, enjoy the outfit and simplicity top review below! See you soon! 😉

Pattern Description: Two piece dress includes top with sleeve & length variations, skirt with waist options allowing you to create a look that shows more, less or no midriff. Choose the top length & skirt waist height that works for you. – SIMPLICITY 8128.

Pattern Sizing: 6 -14, I cut a size 8.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes!

Were the instructions easy to follow? Very easy. This is a no fuss pattern, great for an absolute beginner who wants to learn.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love the wide hem, I have never sewn a 3″ hem at the bottom of a crop top but I’m happy with the affect it gives. Also love the cute little tie closure at the back neck! 🙂

Fabric Used: Lightweight denim from JO-ANN FABRIC.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: None.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes and yes, this top is easy to whip up on days when you want a quick top. I think it would look fabulous in a bold print as well.

  1. Love the look, the pants are amazing. I don’t understand how to finish the waistband with overlap. Can you share some insight??

  2. So I’m currently working on this. However when I attach my shoulder seams it makes the neckline wonky. The pattern must be off. I’m making the larger pattern size. I thought it would be a good one post baby. 🙂 Simple right? Have you ever had that issue? My bodice front piece seems to be off. It’s about an inch over hang. might have to re cut the neck.

    1. Never mind!! I double checked the patterns. I cut the sleeves version back. 🙂 That’s what I get for sewing tired. 🙂

      1. Oh yes that will do it! 😉 I’m glad you figured it out, I know what you mean. Sewing tired it’s not a good combo! LOL I always stop the second I feel myself getting to that point because It’s never good! Get some rest! XO
