DIY Moto Jacket + White Bodysuit

Hello BEAUTIES! Happy FRIDAY! It’s been a bit since my last post and I have missed connecting with my fellow seamstresses SO much! I’ve been lacking in the content department as my camera has been acting up! It’s off to get repaired now so I’ll be back in the blogging cycle soon. 🙂

Aside from the camera issue I’ve been busy sewing and working hard at pattern drafting. I find I need to take a break between drafting/muslins so I can sew up an actual commercial or indie pattern and have a bit of a sewing “fix” (you can only sew up so many muslin fails before you decide you want to sew something you can actually WEAR)! Lol.

This brings me to today’s post, I was intimidated at first glance by this Simplicity 8174 pattern but how fab is this finished Moto Jacket?! I’m glad I took the challenge and invested in the time to make this. One of my promises to myself this year was to make staple pieces that will last in my wardrobe and that I’ll reach for often. I’m happy to say I have been sticking to it! 🙂 I also recently ordered some sewing labels (shown below) and they really make the finished garments that much more special. Pattern Review/Photos below! Enjoy the post and have a FABULOUS weekend, I’ll talk to you all soon! XO ROSY.

Pattern Review

Pattern Description: Mimi G Style moto jacket and knit dress for Miss are the edgy, easy-to-wear pieces your wardrobe needs. Moto jacket features assymetric side zip, and dress has option of contrasting front pocket and sleeves – Simplicity 8174

Pattern Sizing: 6 – 14, I cut size 6.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes!

Were the instructions easy to follow? This is one of those pieces where you will benefit from reading and re-reading the instructions in order to clarify what needs to be done, unless you sew jackets often. I suggest basting important seams and checking you have done them correctly before stitching in your permanent stitch, it will be worth the extra effort.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? It has an interesting vent detail at the back shoulders and I really liked the look. Also for being a moto jacket it has just the right amount of details not to much fuss going with just the right amount of interest.

Fabric Used: Black Moleskin Twill Corduroy (Fashion Fabric) – Zebra Print Stretch Sateen (Lining) both from Joann’s Fabric.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: None.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes I most definitely will sew this again in a spring version! 😉 I do recommend.

P.S. – I reviewed the Nettie Bodysuit pattern preciously you can find that here! This version is the scoop front, mid back. I’ve added a 3″ flounce/cuff to the sleeves. 🙂 Fabric: White Ponte Knit.

  1. A variety of images would be helpful… Side view, back view, and some detail shots would be good to get a better sense of the fit. Looks great but all the images are redundant.

  2. I absolutely LOVE this look– and the flounce cuff you added to the body suit! Your creativity and fashion sense is so much fun to watch!
