VOGUE JACKET + CROPPED PANT - ROSY | PEÑA

Hello BEAUTIES! I hope everyone is doing well! 🙂 I’ve been finishing up my October makes and debating whether or not to sew up a Halloween costume this year, I had a flapper style garment planned out last year and never got to it! The date is soon approaching & I have a different idea this year that I thought would be cute for a blog post! I may save it for next year though, hmm! Has anyone done any costume sewing this year for yourself or others? I’m getting side tracked lol, I have a jam packed blog post today so let me go ahead and get to it! 🙂

Today is a two-in-one Pattern Review on a Vogue Jacket & Simplicity pant pattern! The pant turned out great because I finally realized that I am not the same size in pants as I am in tops/dresses! My hips are a 37″ and when I cut the majority of my pants patterns I paid no mind to thinking that I’m a larger pattern size on the bottom than I am on the top, so I have a TON of patterns that are slightly too small for me! I plan to learn how to make a pants sloper soon so that I can make the adjustments needed to all those patterns that I cut too small! As for this one (since I cut my correct size) it turned out WELL!  I only made a minor change to the design of view E which I talk about in the review!

As for the jacket, I really enjoyed how quickly this came together. It’s an unlined jacket and I choose to serge all of my seams as opposed to hong-kong finishing so that took out some time. My favorite details of this pattern are definitely the tucks! The collar variations are a definite plus as well. 🙂 I had a comment on my October Sewing plans post by a reader who reccomended the pattern with this fabric as it would pair well with several clothing items and I couldn’t agree more! I could see this over a fitted dress, worn with jeans, a pencil skirt. This pattern can work with many types of fabrics and textures, I highly recommend it and it’s an easy make so do not let the word jacket intimidate you. If you can sew a shirt you can sew this type of jacket, in my opinion! Have a great day everyone! Thank you for reading! Style photos and reviews below! XO

P.S. – This has nothing to do with the blog post. I am planning on making an Instagram account specifically for selling garments I’ve made in the past as sort of a cleaning out of my closet. Has anyone tried this before and how did it work for you? I appreciate any advice! XO

Pattern Description: Misses Slim and Flared skirts, Cropped Pants and Tie Belt. – Simplicity 8175
Pattern Sizing: 6-14, I cut size 10.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes, this is the perfect beginner pattern if you are interested in sewing skirts or pants.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I like the tie belt.

Fabric Used Not 100% sure on the contents. The best I can describe is a suiting type fabric with a slight amount of stretch. Found at Joann’s Fabric.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: The instructions say to create thread loops for the tie belt instead I created belt loops by cutting a 2″ wide by 14″ long strip of fabric, folding and pressing the long raw edges to the center, then folding and pressing again onto itself. Sew down both sides of the length then cut 3.5″ strips, giving me 4 belt loops.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I will sew the skirt version in the future. I do recommend this pattern especially if you enjoy sewing clothes for work, I think this pattern is perfect for office wear! 😉VOGUE JACKET + CROPPED PANT - ROSY | PEÑA

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I really enjoy this pattern for the tuck details, pattern variations and fabric possibilities!

Fabric Used: Wool blend from Joann’s Fabric.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: None.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Most definitely. Although I don’t mind the unlined look of this jacket I will probably do the next version with a lining. I do recommend this pattern.VOGUE JACKET + CROPPED PANT - ROSY | PEÑA

  1. I LOVE the pants! They are definitely work appropriate and look comfortable. You did a fantastic job as always. As for sewing plans, well, I completed a top this past weekend, and I am working on a Nettie now. Sadly, that is all I have had time for lately, but hey, I least I got a project done. Oh, and I love the jacket too. It would pair beautifully with a dress as well.

    1. Thanks again Dari! I love the Nettie! The only hard part was choosing which variation of neckline to sew! Scoop neck, high neck, etc! LOL. I’m sure yours will come out super cute! Yes one project down is better than none! 🙂 I love the jacket as well! I recommend it if you find the time it’s a pretty quick make! I think I spent more time on the plaid shirt from last week than I did on this jacket! – XO ROSY
